Lot 5488
Constantine II, as Caesar, 316-337. Follis (Bronze, 18 mm, 2.00 g, 4 h), Antiochia, July 325 (?). Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Constantine II to left. Rev. CONSTAN/TINVS / CAESAR / SMANTS in four lines; above, star. RIC 54. Struck from a somewhat worn obverse die and with a flan crack, otherwise, very fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

Bruun misread many officina letters of the dynastic bronze emissions from Antioch. In fact, it were officinae A and S that struck for the Caesars Constantine and Constantius, with no other officinae represented. For Constantine Caesar, there are presently 9 examples known of officina A and 75 of officina S.
